E-PSYCHOLOGIST : A new digital mental health service available as an add-on to the Medical Plan

Our recent study of seafarers’ wellbeing shows that on board every vessel at least 1 seafarer is feeling depressed and anxious. Young seafarers are doing worse than the older more experienced crew and nearly half the crew report that they do not have someone to confide in onboard. These findings match the WHO’s statement that depression is the leading cause of disability with a higher prevalence among young adults.

Many of Marine Benefits’ clients are seeking advise on how to deal with the situation, and the need for a professional psychologist service that is tailor-made to suit the maritime industry has become increasingly evident.

Marine Benefits have therefore partnered with the Bergen-based company Lifekeys, an expert in offering online psychologist services. From 1 May 2021 we will offer a new digital mental health service as an add-on to the medical plan. Once implemented, the members will have access to online consultations with a licensed clinical psychologist within maximum 72 hours from the first request. The service is offered in seven languages and is available 24/7.

Focusing on mental health is not just positive for the individual, it is good for the business and ensures a sustainable work environment on board. Read more about the E-psychologist service here or contact your underwriter at uwr@marinebenefits.no.
